Global Warming
- Change your light bulbs to compact florescent light bulbs (CFL’s) or LED’s (this alone can save you 70% or more on your lighting electricity). Switch to low-flow water usage (Shower-heads, sinks, toilets). Weatherize your home.
- Think about ways to save energy. Plan more efficiently for shopping trips, etc.
- Talk to your friends. Contact your local representatives, ministers, mayors, community leaders, and representatives; tell them we need a direct progressive Fee & Dividend policy on carbon emissions now.
Being conservative with energy and water can save you money but more importantly, it increases energy independence.
Be Aware of Energy Usage
- Reduce use of your dryer (it accounts for about 6% of household electrical usage).
- Think about how to get more done with less fossil fuel. Plan shopping trips better to have fewer trips. Car-pool when feasible.
- Talk to your friends about global warming and what it means.
- Buy local food if able.
- Reduce consumption and choose products that use less packaging.
- Switch off or unplug unused electronics (vampire usage).
- Try to eat less meat. We reluctantly admit that industrially produced meat is greenhouse gas intensive*. Organically grown grass fed ranching indicates to be less GHG intensive**.
- Change your light bulbs to compact florescent light bulbs (CFL’s) or LED’s (this alone can save you 70% or more on your lighting electricity).
- Weatherize your home to use less energy. Switch to low-flow water usage (Shower-heads, sinks, toilets) because it takes energy to get water to your home.
* 37% of total methane (CH4), 65% nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions, 9% of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions as reported by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.
** Organic farming such as natural grass fed cattle and stream fed ranches significantly reduces the GHG intensity of meat production. Simply put, not having to ship in water and feed reduces the amount of energy needed to produce meat.
