NASA - Global Temperature Increase 1885-2009

Our Statement

To: (Your Government Representative)

I support a simple 'Fee & Dividend' approach to reduce greenhouse gas emissions as outlined by Dr. James Hansen.

In order to retain the highest standard of living possible for our future, I ask that you act immediately on meaningful greenhouse gas emission reduction policy.

My vote is influenced by your position on this most important matter.

Sincerely,
(Your Name)

Thanks for this John, whenever I have had the chance I have promoted Hansen's idea as the most rational and fair one that has a chance to be effective in our present (unsustainable) growth driven economic systems.

I have a degree in physics, and I've been writing atmosphere models for twelve years. If we don't act on a grand scale very, very soon, the consequences are going to be disastrous. Let me know if you want details.

B.C. appears to be the only jurisdiction that actually has [since 2007?] "tax and dividend" - not sure it's had any effect on petro consumption, which will be hard to tease out of the general economic dysfunction

Cap and Trade would put and end to any possibility of leveling the playing field for the development of reloable and efficient renewable energy sources and carbon capture that may help stem the ravages of high Carbon concentrations.

The "fee & dividend" proposal is elegant in that it's simple, it will work, and because the money never finds its way through bureaucrats, the lobbying industry is defused.

Fee-and-dividend is the most politically realistic approach for reducing carbon emissions as the good majority of the people will come out ahead - if 100 percent of the fee goes to the dividend - as James Hansen proposes. It is our best chance of achieving the necessary political will.

To draft a plan for a global fee and dividend, something like what is outlined here: http://citizensclimatelobby.org/files/Carbon%20Fee%20and%20Dividend%20Act%20of%202010.pdf , but engineered to spread beyond national boundaries would be key. Agree? contact me: peter{at}vogelsanger.ch

The dividend must be 100%. Do not change anything. In this case, the politicians must simply obey because the scientists are only the messenger from Mother Nature. Nature is the harshest of judges. She has already killed 99% of all species that ever lived. Humanity is no exception.

We will know our politicians by the policies they support.
No climate legislation - either ignorant or uncaring.
Cap and trade - favors money from fossil fuel industry over well-being for the populace.
Tax and dividend - willing to risk choices unpopular amongst those with the most money for the greater good.
